The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly (AbCMA) was established on 19th February 2019 by an LI 2376. The Assembly was carved out from Accra Metropolitan Assembly. A Medium Term Development Plan covering the years 2019 to 2021 was extracted from the Medium Term Development Plan (2018-2021) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to guide the continuous development of the newly created Municipality. The Assembly therefore started implementation of projects within its area of jurisdiction from March 2019. The Ablekuma Central Municipal (AbCMA) is located at the northern part of the Greater Accra Region. It is situated between Latitude 5o 81’3” N and Latitude 50 67’7” N, between Longitude 0o 24’0” W and 0o 13’1”W. It is one of the twenty-six districts in the Greater Accra Region and covers a total land area of 9.14 square kilometres. It is bounded on the West by the Ablekuma West Municipal, on the East and South by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and on the North by Ablekuma North Municipal. Whilst the northeast is bounded by Okaikoi South sub-metropolitan district.
Settlement Patterns
The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly has about 23 major settlements with about 82% of the population living in the urban areas. The remaining 18% occupy the rural areas. The capital, Laterbiokorshie, is approximately 10 kilometres from the national capital city, Accra. Laterbiokorshie is the largest and the highest ranked community offering diverse facilities and services. It has vibrant markets and is a noted commercial centre within the Greater Accra region. Other large towns in the Municipality include, Abossey Okai, Mataheko and Mambrouk. The Assembly has other small communities which are linked to the trunk road via feeder roads
